Temple Estate Lake

Fishing at Temple Estate Lake is a huge part of the attraction for most people and the sport on offer is in the main, excellent.

With fish to over 40lb to target, including Carp to 32lb as well as a few real surprises, whether you’re looking for a ‘bite a chuck’ from silvers, great Pike sport on small lures or want to get the pod set up for a lazy Carp session, the 1.2acre lake offers coarse anglers of all disciplines great sport from the pegs only a few steps from the back door and hot tub.

The lake is tree lined so like most estate lakes has a silty bottom meaning that when carp are the target, the best baits to use are popups or wafters. We’d advise using Chod rigs or slightly longer than usual hooklengths to counter the silt.

Maggot and Corn fished on the Waggler yields fantastic sport and anglers truly have no idea what it is that they’ll hook next. In winter, small maggot feeders and waggler are highly effective as the water becomes very clear and poles often spook the fish. In the summer, the carp move to the shallower water and fishing pole and paste or corn produces sometimes massive bags of fish.

The lake is generally shallow, averaging 3ft in depth, Up to 5.5ft with the area directly in front of the house having approx 2.5ft of water, perfect for spring and summer. The lake has plenty of snags and the fish are not tackle shy (as they’re not heavily fished for) so please tackle up accordingly and don’t be afraid to use reasonably heavy gear.

The lake has an aerator active for most of the year which ensures superb water quality and high dissolved oxygen levels to protect the fish stocks. This is controlled remotely by the owners but is on most of the year.

Fishing in 2021/2022

During Summer and Autumn 2021, one angler had 16x Carp in only 3 hours, all between 9lb and 22lb, using one rod! When the fish are on, sport is hectic. Most guests had incredible fishing with lots of 20lb+ fish being caught, the biggest 26lb by Jonathan Thomas in October.

As winter came, the fishing predictably slowed and the first two weeks of January were hard, having fished well over Christmas with good nets of Roach and Pike caught. The Carp had completely switched off over Christmas.

In the third week of January, sport switched on and our guest Leigh had three really successful sessions landing Carp and Pike to 13lb in every session during his stay.

We’ll keep you posted on how things are doing on here!
